Public Commitment 2025 – Update 2

Theme: Increments

Now, three months after the Q1 update, life is still improving incrementally. The focus has been on improving things around the house.

I remodelled the chicken coop, painted the cabin, built a swing bench, installed an Android tablet in the car, and made many more small improvements.

I still have big plans for remodelling the first floor, but I will focus the increments in the coming quarter on processes/work. What can I automate, streamline, and incrementally improve?

Here is my full reflection on Q2 2025.

Pillars

Objective (O): Improve our living space whilst compounding our finances

KR1: Pay off 10% of the house
KR2: Complete first floor remodelling
KR3: Complete cabin painting & install new window (Q3)
KR4: Keep track of family finances every month (Q2 good)
KR5: Earn twice as much as we’re spending (Q2 ok)
KR6: Donate 10% of our income (Q4)

V: Have a fully fleshed-out remodelling strategy (Q1)
V: Plant new trees and seeds before spring arrives (Q1)
V: Install an outdoor pizza oven (Q1)
V: Fully map out the steps and finances of all remodelling projects (Q2)
V: Plant and grow our garden (Q2)
V: Remodel the chicken outdoor area (Q2)
X: Finish at least one remodelling project (Q2)

Two projects last quarter were successful. I remodelled the chicken coop, and the ladies now have a wider area to roam. And we planted the veggies in the garden, and everything is growing like weeds (including the weeds).

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to remodel the toilet upstairs. I have purchased most of the materials, and now I need to take action on finding someone to assist with the electrical and water-related tasks. I’ve updated this goal to capture the full remodel by the end of the year. I did make the full financial picture for materials.

New this quarter is the continuation of painting the (inside of the) cabin and installing a new (larger) window at the back.

As some money coming from my consultancy work is delayed, I’ve also updated the goal of repaying 10% of the house to the end of the year.

People

O: Take good care of our relationships and community ties

KR1: Have one day a week dedicated to each other
KR2: Visit friends and family at least every second week
KR3: Support Angelique with her daycare company (Q3)

Unfortunately, my uncle has passed away. He lived a full life and was loved by his wife, daughter, and grandchildren. May he rest in peace.

Because my niece has taken care of her father so much, she has spent too little time on recruitment for her daycare company, and I hope to help her out with some advice this quarter.

Pursuits

O: Maintain strong business foundations while making consistent improvements in each project

KR1: Get a total of 50 clients for FLO in 2024 (12+ in Q3)
KR2: Build a chat interface for Blossom (Q3)
KR3: Start first Delphi EU project (Q3)
KR4: Launch Blossom 2.0 (Q3)
KR5: Share three pieces of content each week
KR6: Update one resource on Blossom each week

V: Publish the report on psychedelics and reimbursement in Europe (Q1)
V: Launch the new product line for Queal (Q1)
V: Promote Queal & Phase out old products (Q2)

Finding individuals who are an excellent match for FLO Coaching remains a challenge. Some things that worked well include doing podcasts (both Lotte’s own podcast and her appearances as a guest), and we’ve seen some people sign up that way. We’ve had about eight people join us in the last quarter, so we’re not quite at 12 yet, but we’re getting there.

For Queal, we’re phasing out the 5.0 recipe and have introduced the 6.0 recipe. The recipe is not loved universally but is generally well-received. Unfortunately, our fulfilment centre decided to screw us (and their other clients) over by failing to do the one thing they were supposed to do (ship products) for over a month so that, unfortunately, has also made it unclear how much this issue or the new recipe is negatively impacting sales. Still, Queal is a healthy company, and we’re still having fun running it.

In the background, I’ve worked on a new database structure for Blossom. Building the backend is one part. Now comes the building of the front end and putting in the data. I plan to launch the new version in the coming months and also include the chat interface that accesses my data by then (or use another chat interface that is building on Blossom’s data).

With Delphi, the consultancy work continues. Building this in Europe has not been a major focus, as I was awaiting a grant proposal, which unfortunately didn’t come through. I will regroup and see what is most effective around the implementation of psychedelics as medicines in Europe.

Physique

O: Get into the best shape of my life through healthy habits that last

KR1: Do sports 6 out of 7 days (training schema for Hyrox)
KR2: Drink fewer than 2 alcohol beverages per week

V: Map out and save standard meals
V: Make health dashboard on fw.com (Q1)
X: Improve the health dashboard (Q2)
X: Perform stretches in the morning after walking the dogs

Stretches are still a no for me – I don’t seem to have enough ‘need’ to actually do this, so for now, I’m dropping it again.

The same goes for the health dashboard. It’s not enough of a priority in my headspace to work on making this (though it might come back under the incremental changes around food and health).

Sports have generally gone well, but for a few weeks, I lost a bit of motivation as the Hyrox was sold out before we could get tickets. I’m now planning on doing a Hyrox in the gym (with Rens) so we can still train for it and have a goal to work towards.

Drinking less than two drinks per week (average) has been going well. During my vacation in Belgium with friends, I did drink more, so for the coming weeks, it will have to be an average of one drink.

Presence

O: Mindfully implement incremental upgrades in my life

KR1: Switch to a dumb phone for most of the day
KR2: Set specific daily tasks based on the weekly plan
KR3: Make a weekly plan based on the OKRs and update these
KR4: Keep track of daily goal-related activities
KR5: Make one thing incrementally better each week

Goal setting is going well. I see the quarterly and yearly goals on my desktop background and use those to create my weekly plan and goals, which then translate into daily goals and a time-blocked plan.

The dumb phone switch hasn’t been completed, so I’m putting it up here again.

As mentioned at the start, I’ve been making a lot of incremental changes, which will start to focus on work and habits a bit more in the coming quarter.

Notes

That concludes the Q2 update of my yearly theme. Things are going well, and I’m enjoying life. Let’s see what the next quarter will bring.
